    Neil Armstrong and Gemini 8.

Neil Armstrong Signed 1967 First Day Cover with NASA Gemini 8 Mission Debriefings Originally from the Personal Collection of Dr. D. Owen Coons, Chief of the Manned Spacecraft Center Medical Office. A First Day Cover with two se tenant pairs (block of four) of the Gemini 4/ Astronaut 5¢ stamps (Scott # 1331-32) postmarked September 29, 1967, at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida. Armstrong has neatly signed in blue ink at the upper left corner. Previous to being the first man to step on lunar soil during the Apollo 11 mission, Armstrong commanded a Gemini flight that wasn't quite so smooth and successful. On March 16, 1966, Gemini 8 had to make an emergency landing due to some technical issues that had caused the capsule to tumble and roll forcing use of the reentry control thrusters. This lot includes a folder from Dr. Coons's personal files that includes copies of the internal NASA GT-8 medical debriefing as well as the self debriefings by both Armstrong and Dave Scott giving interesting details of their emergency. Also included in this lot are an official NASA printed biography and an 8" x 10" B&W glossy photo of Dr. Coons. Signed cover in excellent condition; the file material is age-toned and showing some wear.
