    1947 Aeronca 7AC Champ

    Neil Armstrong's Model of the Plane Used for His First Solo Flight Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, CAG Certified. An incredibly-detailed and attractive 3.5" x 5.5" model of the 1946 Aeronca, NC83423, in which Armstrong learned to fly, getting his student's pilot certificate on his sixteenth birthday, August 5, 1946. The model is resting on a simulated grass field in a 5" x 7" x 3" clear enclosure on a 7.5" x 11.5" wooden base bearing an engraved plate:

    The Aeronca Champ, manufactured in nearby Middletown, Ohio, was a tandem, two-seat airplane similar to the famous Piper Cub; it featured a 65-horsepower engine, no radio, and only a compass for navigation. The Champ would go on to train thousands of pilots and was one of the most popular and well-liked airplanes from the 1940s. Light wear, fine. CAG 1001969-042. This lot will include an encapsulated CAG Photo Certificate with a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.
