    Description

Neil Armstrong Handwritten 1964 Postcard to His Wife Janet Directly from The Armstrong Family Collection™, CAG Certified. A 5.5" x 3.5" color postcard picturing the Waimea Canyon in Kauai, postmarked from Hawaii on October 12, 1964, addressed to Mrs. N. Armstrong in Seabrook, Texas. He writes in blue ink: "Shades of Grand Canyon- I drive along this on my way to the site (at 4000') I'm learning to surf. You'll have to make this trip next time. Best to the Kids--". Armstrong was working at the worldwide satellite network tracking station in Kauai, an important primary station that would be transmitting verbal command to orbiting Gemini spacecraft in the near future. A great item from before he was given his first assignment as backup to Gordon Cooper on Gemini 5. Creased, fine appearance. Sealed in a numbered archival holder, CAG 1000149-010. This lot will include a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
