    Description

NASA-Ames Research Space Shuttle Experimental Insulation Tile on Display, June 1976. A 3" x 3" x 1.5" section of black-coated white tile mounted on a metal plate with a label that reads: "Reaction Cured Glass Coating On/ LI-900 Reusable Surface Insulation/ NASA-Ames Research Center/ Moffett Field, California/ June 1976". LI-900 tiles were originally developed by Lockheed but the surface treatment developed at Ames led to its adoption in 1976 as the primary tile in the Space Shuttle's thermal protection system. Each spacecraft used over 20,000 LI-900 tiles. A rare and desirable step in the development of the Space Shuttle that would begin flying in 1981. Black surface chipped, fine.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
