    Description

NACA Test Pilot: Flight Checklist for the Lockheed F-104 Starfighter, Circa 1950s, Directly from The Armstrong Family Collection™, CAG Certified. Just one of the many aircraft types Neil Armstrong encountered as test pilot to NACA's High-Speed Flight Station at Edwards Air Force Base. In fact Armstrong was a project pilot on the Starfighter. The checklist is typed on canary paper measuring 8" x 5" in total; 4" x 5" folded. The checklist outlines basic functions involving starting, aircraft limits, take off, landing and air starts. There is a small handwritten note in pencil at the top margin of the recto in Armstrong's hand "Fuel / lite / [illegible] / alarm" and a calculation in pencil on the verso. Moderate to heavy handling wear, with modest creasing, very good overall. Sealed in a numbered archival folder, CAG 1002104-007. This lot will include a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.

Brief History of the Lockheed F-104 Starfighter: The Starfighter was designed as a single-engine supersonic interceptor aircraft. The aircraft was built under license by other countries including Germany and Japan. The aircraft was plagued with safety issues and the Germans called it the "widow maker". The aircraft was part of the "Century Series" of U.S. fighter aircraft.
