NACA Test Pilot: Flight Check Off List for the Douglas F5D Skylancer, Circa late 1950s to early 1960s, Directly from The Armstrong Family Collection™, CAG Certified. Neil Armstrong flew a variety of aircraft during his active Navy combat service during the Korean War, his Reserve service after the war and of course as test pilot at NACA's High-Speed Flight Station. In was in his capacity as test pilot that he flew the Skylancer as part of the X-20 Dyna-Soar project. The X-20 was a spaceplane which had a wide variety of potential military missions including aerial reconnaissance, bombing and satellite maintenance. The pilot checklist consists of one 5" x 8" page, printed on the recto and verso sides with several notes and adjustments in Armstrong's own hand. The list outlines starting procedures, engine settings, ground checks, take off, altitude considerations and landing. Moderate toning to pages, filing holes in the top corners, with scattered stains and a small area of loss at the top left corner, good overall. CAG 1002103-020. This lot will include a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.

Brief History of the Douglas F5D Skylancer: Only four Skylancers were built. Two of the four were transferred to NASA in the early 1960s, one as a test bed for the supersonic transport program; the other used for simulation of abort procedures for the X-20 Dyna-Soar.
