Mercury-Atlas 8 (Sigma 7): Wally Schirra's Owned and Signed Copy of MA-8 Kearsarge Report with Letter of Transmittal, Directly from His Family's Collection. U.S.S. Kearsarge (CVS-33) Project Mercury Report of MA-8, 1 Aug-17 Oct 1962. Signed on the front cover in black felt tip: "Walter M Schirra Jr". An 8" x 10.5" prong-bound illustrated soft cover book marked "Confidential", the Naval report on the preparation for and the recovery of the Sigma 7 spacecraft. Included is a one page typed letter dated March 8, 1963, on "Commander Cruiser Destroyer Flotilla Four" letterhead, signed by Rear Admiral Harold G. Bowen Jr. It reads as follows:

"Dear Wally, At Bob Thompson's party, during our recent visit to Houston, I told you about Captain Rankin's report of MA-8 and you evinced an interest. Therefore, I am forwarding you the attached copy for retention. When your busy schedule permits I am sure you as the Astronaut, and as a Naval Officer, will find it good reading and right out of Gene Rankin's heart. The Catholic Chaplain, Patrick J. Grace, aboard KEARSARE [sic], (page I-C-2) expressed thoughts that we on the Atlantic team also shared. With best regards to you and Jo."

A rare publication. Light wear and paperclip indentations on both, fine overall. Included with this lot will be a signed Certificate of Authenticity from Wally's son, Walter.
