    John Young's Personal ID Badges (Three) for the Space Shuttle Columbia (STS-8) Landing Directly from his Personal Collection, Each Signed. Offered here are three laminated passes, all 2.75" x 3.75", attached to the same clip. They are as follows: (1) "NASA DRYDEN STAFF" with a color STS-8 mission insignia and the typed name, JOHN YOUNG. The Dryden Flight Research Center is NASA's primary center for atmospheric flight research and operations and is located at Edwards; (2) "Shuttle Support AFFTC Flight Line" with a B&W STS-8 mission insignia. The Air Force Flight Test Center conducts developmental and follow-on testing and evaluation of manned and unmanned aircraft and related avionics, flight-control, and weapon systems. It is located at Edwards and also operates the USAF Test Pilot School; (3) "Hugh L. Dryden Flight Research Center NASA" with typed "J. YOUNG" and the expiration date of 21 June 1984. All are in excellent condition.

    The landing of the eighth shuttle mission took place on September 5, 1983 at Edwards Air Force Base in California. It was the first of the shuttle missions to take off and land at night; also, Mission Specialist Guion S. Bluford, Jr. was the first African-American astronaut to fly in space. Young was slated to command the very next shuttle mission, STS-9, and was also serving as Chief of the Astronaut Office at the time of this flight.

    On the back of each badge, Young has signed his name.
