Neil Armstrong and the "Moon Rabbit"

Giant Leap World Tour, 11/03-04 (South Korea): Wooden Storage Box with Extensive Mother-of-Pearl Inlay Work, Presented by the Prime Minister to the Armstrongs, Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, CAG Certified. A gorgeous, highly-polished 11" x 6" (top) x 3.75" (tall) wooden box that could certainly be used for various purposes including cigarettes (although there is no ashtray present). The top has an inlaid image of an astronaut receiving a present from the Moon rabbit (a common Asian folklore figure) along with a futuristic spacecraft and the earth in the background. Applied tiny letters read: "Welcome to Korea Mr. & Mrs. Neil Armstrong" ("L" in Neil missing). The front bears a detailed depiction of the track to the moon and back by the spacecraft along with an engraved plate: "Presented By Prime Minister Il Kwon Chung/ Seoul, Korea/ Nov. 3, 1969". The sides and back have "Apollo 11" Saturn stage separation artwork. A stunning piece for display. Very fine. CAG 1003305-004. This lot will include an encapsulated CAG Photo Certificate with a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
