    Description

German V-2 Rocket Team: Cover Canceled on the Date of Wernher von Braun's Surrender to the American Army in 1945, with Additional Material. A philatelic cover with a photo of the event with the headline: "German V-2 Rocket Team SURRENDERS," canceled in Washington, DC, on May 2, 1945. Part of the text explains how Wernher and his brother Magnus found an American private in Austria to where they had fled; Magnus told the soldier: "My name is Magnus von Braun. My brother invented the V-2. We want to surrender." The rest is history. Also included is are two B&W glossy photos of the event, an additional cover with a cachet celebrating the fall of the Third Reich, cancelled May 2, 1945, at Berlin, New Hampshire, and a vintage postcard from Ruette where he was captures. A very rare and important cover. Very fine.
