Gene Cernan Typed Letter Signed to Neil Armstrong with the Original Accompanying Letter from CNN, Both Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, Certified and Encapsulated by Collectibles Authentication Guaranty. Three items. Cernan is forwarding a letter from Miles O'Brien, Space Correspondent at CNN, to Armstrong and vouching for his integrity. The letter from O'Brien (included) is asking for an interview upon the 30th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission. The letter from Cernan is one page on his personal stationery and is dated June 18, 1999. It reads as follows:

    "Dear Neil:
The enclosed letter is self-explanatory, with the following exception. I have befriended Miles O'Brien at CNN and I can vouch for his integrity and professionalism 100 percent. He has interviewed me on several occasions and the results have been very gratifying and well received. He had asked me if it were possible to get in touch with you at this time, and I offered to forward his letter with my personal endorsement.

"Neil, your response is certainly completely up to you. Other than what I have said, I have no other motive or reason for passing this on. As you can see from his letter, he felt he needed to try and contact you with the hopes of getting a positive reply.

"I tried to call you this week, and I appreciate you returning/my call, out I felt this the quickest way to try to get hold of you.
    [signed] Gene
    Eugene A. Cernan

"This ltr was written before we talked! Take care."

The Cernan and O'Brien letters are both excellent and sealed in numbered archival sleeves. Also included is a Miles O'Brien bio and business card. This lot will include Statements of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
