    Building a Gemini spacecraft?

Gemini Spacecraft: Sets (Both) of Crew Hatch Door Assembly Shingles with Set of McDonnell Full Scale Manufacturing and Assembly Blueprints (Four). The Gemini spacecraft was designed for rendezvous, docking, and EVAs. A major design change from the Mercury capsule was the outward opening ingress and egress hatches, symmetrically spaced on the top side of the cabin section. We are offering this complete set of twenty-eight (fourteen for each hatch) metal shingles, circa 1962-3, from the estate of a McDonnell machinist inspector who traveled to various manufacturing facilities for inspections. These were actual manufacturing items, an extra set for quality evaluation, and were to be thrown into the trash before he asked if he could have them. He was allowed to take them along with a set of blueprints and four pages of change sheets. Also included is the popular 11" x 17" McDonnell color lithograph of the spacecraft. The largest shingle is 14" x 18" and the blueprints range in size from 70" x 34" to 125" x 36" (all approximate). Original manufactured spacecraft parts such as these are rarely offered especially in complete sets. A rare opportunity for the hardware collector. No holes are drilled in these but the blueprints will show you their exact positioning, if so desired. Shingles have some general scratches, handwritten numbers, and a few have slightly bent edges. The blueprints have wear and soiling. The lithograph has some flaws at borders that would mat out.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
