    Description

Gemini 8 Flown Gold-Colored Fliteline Medallion Originally from the Collection of Astronaut Joe Kerwin. This 25mm medal was flown aboard Gemini 8, which was the world's first orbital docking. On board were Neil Armstrong and David Scott. The obverse of the medal shows the whole spectrum of objectives that were hoped to have been accomplished on Gemini 8. The text at the bottom is comprised of the zodiacal symbol for Gemini and the Roman numeral VIII. The two stars are Castor and Pollux, which are in the constellation of Gemini, and are refracted through a prism to provide the spectrum. The reverse has a struck "First to Dock in Space" and the engraved date of the flight, March 16, 1966. Original case included. Excellent condition. From the Steven R. Belasco Collection of Space Memorabilia.

Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Authenticity on Kerwin's letterhead stating, in full: "I hereby certify that the gold colored Gemini VIII Fliteline medal that accompanies this letter was flown aboard the mission March 16, 1966. As a member of the Astronaut Flight Office I was permitted to purchase this flown medal and it has been a part of my personal collection since receiving it just after the mission."

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
