    Description

Gemini 8: Aviation Week Plaque of Gemini 8 Approaching Agena Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, Certified by Collectibles Authentication Guaranty with a Photo Certificate. 12.75" x 15.5", A McGraw-Hill Publication, March 28, 1966. The magazine edition features a story entitled, "Gemini 8 Approaches Agena for Docking". The Gemini 8 mission was commanded by Neil Armstrong in what would be his first flight into space. The Gemini VIII was meant to dock with the Agena, but problems arose shortly after docking and the crew had to make an emergency abort of the mission. Armstrong's quick thinking and calm demeanor during the un-docking and re-entry was later praised by his pilot David Scott. Light scratching and minor wear throughout, else fine. This lot will include an encapsulated CAG Photo Certificate with a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
