Gemini 6A: Rare Original Embroidered Crew Patch Directly from the Estate of NASA Legend Chris Kraft, with Certificate of Authenticity. A 4" x 3.5" hexagonal black twill patch with stitched border and cut edge. This is the type of patch that Wally Schirra and Tom Stafford wore on their first (unsuccessful) launch attempt. As shown on this patch, their original mission was to rendezvous and dock with an Agena Target Vehicle. When their Agena launch failed, the new mission objective was to rendezvous with the already-launched Gemini 7. Thus, the new patch had a second Gemini capsule instead of the Agena. An ultra-rare patch, the first unflown example Heritage has offered. Excellent.

"It was awesome in mission control. This was an event l'd been working toward and waiting for. Rendezvous was ours. Wally Schirra was certainly correct- America could now officially claim to be ahead of the Russians in the race to the moon. They hadn't shown the world a spacecraft that could maneuver, and they certainly didn't have the technology or the rendezvous skills to put two spacecraft nose to nose in orbit. I'd never lit a mission cigar until the astronauts were safe on them from the recovery ship. But now I pulled two out of my coat pocket and handed one to Bob Gilruth. We both lit up and grinned like a couple of happy kids." ( Flight. My Life in Mission Control by Chris Kraft, page 244, New York: Dutton, 2001).
