Gemini 6A Flown Embroidered Mission Insignia Patch Directly from the Jim Rathmann Collection. Originally obtained from Mission Pilot Tom Stafford by Pete Conrad and presented to the Rathmanns. This 4" x 3.375" hexagonally-shaped partially-embroidered on black cloth patch flew with crewmembers Wally Schirra and Tom Stafford, December 15-16, 1965, on this mission, the first to accomplish a manned rendezvous with another spacecraft, Gemini 7. This is the original design for the Gemini 6 mission insignia with the Gemini capsule rendezvousing with an Agena Target Vehicle and a designation of "GTA-6." The original mission was scrubbed when the Agena exploded minutes after its launch on October 25, 1965. The mission was later launched as Gemini 6A eight days after the launch of Gemini 7, with a newly-designed insignia. Rare and desirable. Pristine condition.

A copy of a two-page letter from Pete Conrad to Kay Rathmann discussing how he had gathered as many flown Gemini patches and medallions as he could for the Rathmanns' collection is included with this lot. It mentions that Tom Stafford had contributed this Gemini 6 patch.
