    Description

Gemini 4 Flown Silver Fliteline Medallion Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Pilot Ed White II, with Signed COA from his Son. This 25mm sterling silver medal flew on America's second two-man space mission, June 3-7, 1965, along with Jim McDivitt and Ed White II. The obverse features the crew's proposed mission insignia of an American eagle above their space capsule floating with the crew's full names above and below. The reverse has a struck riband with "GT-4" below and engraved mission dates along with the sterling hallmark. Original case included. Only the second Gemini 4 Fliteline ever offered by Heritage. Excellent condition. From the Steven R. Belasco Collection of Space Memorabilia.

Included with this lot is a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Edward H. White III on behalf of his father's estate stating, in full: "This document shall certify that this sterling silver medallion was carried into space by Edward H. White II, on the Gemini 4 mission, June 3-7, 1965. These medallions were designed by the Crew and this same design was intended to become a crew emblem and patch to be worn on their spacesuits. NASA did not approve the design due to the fact that it contained the American Eagle, which they intended for the first lunar landing mission. The Crew chose to wear the American flag on their spacesuit instead, becoming the first Crew to do so."

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
