    Description

Friendship One Flight: Neil Armstrong's Personal 1988 Silver Medal, PF65 Ultra Cameo NGC, Celebrating the World Record Flight, Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, Certified and Encapsulated by Collectibles Authentication Guaranty. On January 29-30, 1988, a children's charitable foundation sponsored an attempt at beating the round-the-world air speed record with a United Airlines Boeing 747SP. On board were 141 passengers who donated at least $5000 each to the charity, including United Airlines Board Member Neil Armstrong. He was quoted by a reporter aboard the flight when asked to compare it to Apollo 11: "...I must say this flight is a little more comfortable than that flight. Also, the service on Apollo 11 was pretty ratty." His name is engraved on the reverse. By the way, they did set the record, 36 hours, 54 minutes, 15 seconds and raised $500 thousand for some very deserving children's charities. This lot will include a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Museum of Flight.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
