First American astronaut to visit the Soviet Union

Frank Borman's July 1969 Visit to the Soviet Union: Signed Large Photo Album and Extensive Internal File, Both from the Archives of General Nikolai Kamanin. Frank Borman was the first American astronaut to visit the Soviet Union. He and his wife were given a semi-official tour of the USSR, July 2-10, 1969, escorted by cosmonauts Titov, Feoktistov, and Beregovoy, where they visited Moscow, Star City, and other space-related facilities, celebrated the Fourth of July with a party at the U.S. Embassy, and even met with President Podgorny. This large (15.5" x 11.25") and impressive spiral bound album was created as a presentation to members of the touring party. This one was signed inside by Borman and comes from the collection of Nikolai Kamanin. The book contains thirty-four (plus cover photos) silk finish B&W photos of various stops on the tour of Moscow, many of which have rarely been seen in America. Also included with this lot is a file folder full of typewritten material about Borman and his trip with biographies, programs, and itineraries, all in Russian. An interesting lot about an historic trip some historians credit with laying the groundwork for future US/USSR space cooperation including the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project. Fine.
