    Description

Doctor Donald E. "Doc" Stullken, NASA's Chief of Recovery Operations Branch, NASA-Related Archive from His Estate. From Mercury through Skylab, Doc Stullken was often the first person the astronauts would see as they stepped onto the ship from the recovery helicopter. That's not to mention that he was the one who invented the Mercury Auxiliary Flotation Collar, usually referred to as "The Stullken Collar," used to help stabilize and buoy the space capsules after splashdown. Included in this lot are items from his personal collection of NASA memorabilia, as follows.
Apollo Mission Briefs: These 5" x 3.375" staple bound mission-specific books are rarely seen or offered for sale. There are nine in this group, Apollo 7 (15 June, 1968), Apollo 9 (2 December 1968), Apollo 9 (18 February 1969), Apollo 11 (4 July 1969), Apollo 12 (25 September 1969), Apollo 13 (22 December 1968), Apollo 13 (13 March 1970), Apollo 14 (October 1970), and Apollo 14 (January 1971). These were issued for internal NASA use only and each contains a wealth of mission information. Some exhibit mildew and staining from poor storage, fair to very good overall.
Apollo Mission Charts: Four large, rolled original orbit and trajectory charts. One from Apollo 6- "Apollo Mission Chart (AMC) 6/ Sheet 1 of 2". Three from Apollo 14- "Apollo Earth Orbit Chart (AEO)", "Apollo Lunar Orbit Chart (ALO)/ Lunar Revolutions 1, 18, 20, and 34", and "Apollo Translunar/ Transearth Trajectory Plotting Chart (ATT)". The ATT example is quite crinkled the balance very good or better.
NASA-Related Badges: Group of eleven- Navy Pearl Harbor COMHAWSEAFRON (Commander Hawaiian Sea Frontier) Temporary Pass 1964, same from 1965, Department of Defense DWSMC (Defense Weapons System Management Course), Apollo BP-22 (rare, Apollo 003 boiler plate), Imperium Neptuni, Regis (USS Princeton, May 1969), USS New Orleans ID Card, Skylab MCC security badge, Skylab 3 Welcome Home, Apollo-Soyuz Test Project MCC security badge, ASTP Welcome Home, and ASTP CM Work Area Escort badge. Generally very fine.
Photo Postcards: Collection of thirty-six, all featuring space themes, mostly color, very fine or better.
Engineering Tools: A 3" x 4.375" circular slide rule with Periodic Table on the back in a sleeve, both are marked "Property of U.S. Government", includes instruction booklet. Also, a two-sided 4.25" diameter Navy/ Air Force computer for air navigation, true airspeed, mach no., wind solution, and supersonic, in snap-close case, with complete instructions. Fine.
Skylab I (SL-2): A personalized copy of the cruise book from the USS Ticonderoga, for the first Skylab recovery. A 64-page hardbound book with numerous photos of the rescue operation. This was the third and last NASA recovery mission (Apollo 16 and Apollo 17 previously) before her inactivation. Includes a letter of transmittal to Stullken signed by the Captain.
Also, a few mission pinbacks. A nice grouping from a NASA legend.
