    Description

Deke Slayton Typed Letter Signed to Neil Armstrong Regarding the Thrill of Spaceflight Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, Certified and Encapsulated by Collectibles Authentication Guaranty. A one-page letter on NASA stationery dated September 18, 1975. This was just a few weeks after Slayton returned to earth after the historic Apollo-Soyuz Test Project Mission which essentially ended the "space race." Even though chosen as one of the original Mercury Seven astronauts, Deke had never gone into space because of medical issues. It reads as follows:

    "Dear Neil:

"A belated thanks for your kind note prior to the launch of Apollo/Soyuz. I finally had a chance to discover how much fun you guys have been having all these years, and you are right: it's worth the wait.

"We are about to leap off on a month of touring the USSR and US, so will miss the SETP [Society of Experimental Test Pilots]. I had hoped to see you there. In any case, we will join up somewhere around the circuit.

    "Best wishes, and thanks again.

    "Sincerely,
    [signed] Deke
    NASA Astronaut"

Both Slayton and Armstrong were fellows of the SETP. A very desirable letter revealing that Slayton's space mission fulfilled his expectations. Flattened original folds, otherwise excellent, sealed in a numbered archival sleeve. This lot will include a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
