Chris Kraft Signed Mercury-Related Teletype and Souvenir Cover. Kraft was NASA's first flight director and, as such, was heavily involved in America's early manned space program. This lot includes eight items total, including a promo postcard for his book Flight, a Sigma 7 cachet cover with a 4¢ Project Mercury stamp cancelled at the National Postage stamp show on November 16, 1962 (signed: "Chris Kraft"), and five 1961 and 1962-dated NASA internal teletypes. The last item is dated February 21 [1962], the day after John Glenn's flight in Friendship 7. A teletype from Kraft to all involved, in full: "John Glenn made a special effort in calling me this afternoon to have me transfer this message to all on the Mercury Network. He was extremely pleased with the performance of the Flight Controllers and the way in which they performed. Also, he wanted to make sure that each one of the sites received his thanks for their splendid performance and support to his flight. He felt that everyone performed in a highly professional manner and he was great impressed with your technical capability and thoroughness. Sgnd C C Kraft for J H Glenn" Signed at close: "Chris Kraft". A great relic from this historic flight. All items in fine condition or better. From the Steven R. Belasco Collection of Space Memorabilia.
