    Description

Apollo: "Saturn Project Fact Sheet" (Eight Pages) from the Marshall Space Flight Center, October 15, 1962, Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, Each Page Certified and Encapsulated by Collectibles Authentication Guaranty. A fascinating early summary of the Saturn rocket program from the Public Information Office at Marshall. Eight 8" x 10.5" pages full of detailed information. It opens as follows:

"Two heavy space vehicles are being developed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration under the project name "Saturn." The Saturn project is providing vehicles capable of sending payloads of many tons into earth orbit, to the moon and into deep space. A main purpose of the project is manned space exploration„ including the landing of men and equipment on the moon within this decade.

"The Saturn development program is under the direction of the NASA Office of Manned Space Flight, headed by D. Brainerd Holmes. The NASA field center responsible is the Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, Ala., directed by Dr. Wernher von Braun.

"The first version of Saturn, called C-1, has a booster developing 1.5 million pounds thrust. This effort was started in late 1958. The initial C-1 booster with inert upper stages was launched on a perfect flight over the Atlantic Missile Range Oct. 27, 1961. The second launching, on April 25, 1962, was likewise successful.

"The second version, C-5, will have a booster of 7. 5 million pounds thrust -- five times that of the C-1. The program is in its early design phases and the first launching is scheduled in 1965."

A later, more powerful Saturn V rocket is, of course, what blasted Apollo 11 toward the moon less than seven years after this was published and within the projected date mentioned above. Lightly toned, very fine. Sealed in numbered archival sleeves. This lot will include Statements of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.
