    Apollo A7L boot.

Apollo Program: Training-Used A7L Lunar Boot by ILC with Original Gene Cernan Tagging. A complete boot for the right foot, 14" x 6" x 8" tall, with Beta cloth-covered uppers and liners and with a blue silicone rubber sole with the very familiar tread seen in many iconic photos of the footprints left on the lunar surface by the Apollo moonwalkers. This is apparently an early training version as the final moon-worn boots had a metal-woven fabric (Chromel-R) on the top and back. An International Latex corporation tag sewn to the donning strap gives the part number as "A7L-106015-??", the size as "OLGE", serial number "007", and code "74897". Another tag, sewn on the inside of the upper tongue reads "E CERNAN". This type of boot was worn for lunar surface EVAs to provide additional thermal and abrasion protection as well as better traction. Seldom offered. Originally purchased by our consignor in the October 1997 Space & Aviation sale by Superior Galleries. Generally fine condition with light wear and soiling.
