    Description

Apollo Flown Panel Screws (Thirty-eight), Kapton Foil (One Piece), and Ablative Plugs (Twenty-seven Complete) from the Estate of NASA Engineer Donald T. Hamilton, "Panel #2". From the person who wrote the "Postflight Testing of Command Modules" NASA Technical Note (photocopy included), here are rare flown relics he saved from the processing of one of the flown Apollo CMs. The items described below were placed in a ziplock bag and labeled "Panel #2" at the time of the teardown, testing, and examination of one of the flown Apollo command modules. Unfortunately, he did not label which mission. As follows:
Panel Screws: Thirty-eight NAS1623C Close Tolerance screws, National Aerospace Standard right hand screws used to secure access panels on the spacecraft.
Kapton Foil: An odd-shaped piece, approximately 3.5" x 4.5" overall. This material was used to cover the CM as a heat-deflecting device.
    Ablative Plugs:
Twenty-seven complete (0.75" x 0.375" and 0.75" x 0.5") and three broken pieces (various sizes). These plugs were threaded into holes to cover the bolts that were used to secure various access panels around the exterior of the spacecraft.
Since we cannot identify the spacecraft of which these were a part, they are being offered as is in the exact way we received them from the consignor at an attractive opening bid. Perfect for insertion into acrylic displays for resale. Fine. From the family collection of the late Donald T. Hamilton, a NASA engineer of 40+ years' service.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
