Slayton performs an Apollo simulation just days before he was grounded

Apollo: Deke Slayton's 1962 Apollo Entry Flight Simulation Graph Originally from His Personal Collection. A 12" x 9" sheet of red-lined graph paper (ten squares per inch) featuring a hand-plotted, detailed ink graph of the simulation results with "Time in Seconds" along the X-axis and "G" along the Y-axis. An oval label bears the text: "Apollo/ Entry Flight Simulation/ Flown by/ Donald K. Slayton/ August 30, 1962". Just beneath is a transparent "S&ID" sticker representing the Space and Information Systems Division of North American Aviation (later Rockwell). In November 1961, S&ID was picked to be the principal contractor for the Apollo spacecraft development. Slayton was chosen as one of the first seven astronauts known as the "Mercury Seven" in 1959 but, because of a heart condition, did not fly until 1975's Apollo-Soyuz Test Project. The official date of his grounding was September 18, 1962, less than three weeks after this simulation. This might have been one of the last flight simulations he performed as an astronaut in training. The test crew presented him with this graph, a great memento of the earliest days of the Apollo program. Very slight fading and a couple of minor stains, otherwise fine.
