    Rare early spacesuit design

Apollo A6L Spacesuit: ILC's First Test Sample of the Thermal Micrometeoroid Garment Trousers, Manufactured June 20, 1966. The trousers only for this two-piece lead-up design to the famous A7L suit (a one-piece design) that would travel to the moon. It is a thickly padded garment filled with layers of Mylar and other materials designed to prevent a micrometeoroid from penetrating and damaging the inner suit. The outside is believed to be Nomex and the inside is lined with a gray material (Chromel R?). The waist is elastic. There is a zipper (38" long) from the waist to the cuff of the left leg with a secondary 5" wide covering panel held closed by Velcro. The right leg has a similar zipper (22") but only from the thigh down to the cuff, also with secondary panel covering. The International Latex Corporation tag inside bears the following information:

    ITEM: TMG Trousers
    MODEL NO.: A6L
    SIZE: Special
    DATE: 6/20/66

An incredibly important step in the evolution of the Apollo spacesuit. These trousers show wear and are quite soiled. There are several small holes where the underlying layer of Mylar can be seen. A perfect item for display. A photo from ILC showing a man wearing this suit is included. Good.
