    Description

Apollo 8: Neil Armstrong's Personal Copy of NASA's "Analysis of Apollo 8 Photography and Visual Observations" Book [and] All Four "Apollo Mission 8 Lunar Photography Index" Maps, Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, CAG Certified. (Washington, D.C.: Office of Technical Information Division NASA, 1969). As backup commander for this mission, it stands to reason that he would receive this copy at the Astronaut Office (routing in red on front). NASA publication SP-201 is a 337 page softbound heavily-illustrated book that includes a small image of every photo taken on the mission and extensive analysis. Included with the book are all four of the large (each approximately 57" x 10.5") foldout DoD Edition 3 (May 1969) maps. An interesting and displayable grouping. Very fine. CAG 1001904-001. This lot will include an encapsulated CAG Photo Certificate with a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
