    Apollo 8 Flown Heat Shield Ablator in Acrylic Display. A 1.75" long section of the heat shield charred by the intense heat of re-entry, contained in a half-capsule shaped display, 3.625" x 3.125". The Apollo 8 mission insignia is incorporated into the design of the front. The back bears the text: "Apollo/ 8/ Moon Mission/ Dec.21 thru Dec. 27 1968./ 1st Manned Spacecraft to/ Leave Earth Gravitation Field/ and Orbit Moon./ Re-Entry Speed 24,6000 M.P.H./ Temp of H/S Ablator 5000º/ 10 Orbits of Moon./ North American Rockwell/ Contractor". Minor damage on one back edge, fine overall.
