An amazing relic of the first Apollo mission.

Apollo 7 Commander Wally Schirra's Flown Space Suit Patches (Three) in a Framed Display, Originally from His Personal Collection. Three pressure suit patches that were worn by Schirra during Apollo 7, the landmark test flight of the newly-redesigned Apollo C/SM, October 11-22, 1968. Offered here are his 6.5" x 4.5" U.S. flag (worn on left upper sleeve), the 3.75" x 3.25" Apollo 7 mission insignia on Beta cloth (worn on left chest); and his 3.5" x 1" "SCHIRRA" Beta cloth name patch (worn on middle chest). These suit patches were traditionally removed and presented to the astronaut after the flight. Included in this lot are two photos of Schirra in his space suit, one during training and one on the day of launch. Both clearly match the physical characteristics of this flag. The three patches are matted together in gold filets with a color Apollo 7 photo fact sheet into a blue frame with red trim, overall 25" x 20" in size. A rare opportunity. Flown patches show expected wear, otherwise excellent condition.

Wally Schirra (1923-2007) was one of the original seven astronauts chosen by NASA in 1959 for Project Mercury. He was the fifth American to fly into space in Mercury-Atlas 8 Sigma (Σ) 7 on October 3, 1962, when he made six earth orbits. Schirra then commanded the Gemini 6A mission, December 15-16, 1965, which accomplished the first manned rendezvous with another spacecraft (Gemini 7) during its sixteen orbit flight. When Schirra commanded the Apollo 7 mission, he became the first person to fly into space three times and the only person to fly in all of America's first three space programs. In his distinguished career, Schirra logged a total of 295 hours and 15 minutes in space.
