    Description

First appearance on the market since 1981.

Apollo 17 Flown Silver Robbins Medallion, Serial Number F39. A handsome sterling silver medal, 35mm diameter, one of only eighty flown to the moon aboard Apollo 17, December 7-19, 1972, with crewmembers Gene Cernan, Ron Evans, and Harrison Schmitt. Three hundred were minted to commemorate this sixth and final lunar landing of the NASA program; all were serial numbered but only the first eighty bear the "F" prefix denoting that they were flown. The obverse features the mission insignia depicting the head of the Greek god Apollo, a U.S. flag, an eagle, and the moon, with "Apollo - XVII", and the surnames of the crewmembers around. The mission dates are engraved on the reverse with the phrases "America - Challenger" and "Apollo XVII The Beginning" around. The serial number and sterling and Robbins hallmarks are on the rim. This is the rarest of all Apollo silver Robbins medallions, missing in many advanced collections. Our consignor purchased this medal at the Bowers & Ruddy "Springfield Collection" auction, September 22-24, 1981, Lot 2634. Beautiful condition.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
