Apollo 17 Crew-Signed Insurance "Type" Cover Originally from the Personal Collection of Pam Evans, Sister of Mission Command Module Pilot Ron Evans. A philatelic cover, postmarked December 7, 1972, with a pictorial NASA cancellation from Kennedy Space Center, Florida, over an 8¢ "United States in Space" stamp. At left is a color cachet of the mission insignia with "NASA Manned Spacecraft Center Stamp Club" printed above and "Official Commemorative Cover" below. The three crewmembers have boldly signed in black felt tip beneath and to the right of the cachet: "Ron Evans", "Harrison H Schmitt", and "Gene Cernan". The name "Pam Evans" is lightly written in the address area, likely in Ron Evans' handwriting. While there were no "official" insurance covers produced by Bishop for this mission, the crew did sign a group of these MSCSC covers and it is known that Ron Evans did leave a stash of them with his wife. The entire story of this cover is told in an article by Space historian Howard Weinberger on Chris Spain's excellent website and, in fact, this is the plate example from that site. A rare opportunity to own one of the rare pre-flight signed covers from this final Apollo lunar mission. Excellent.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
