    Description

Apollo 16 Flown Beta Cloth Mission Insignia Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Charlie Duke, Signed and Certified, in Framed Display with Handwritten Letter of Certification. This patch bearing the crew emblem, was carried by Duke in his PPK during the mission. It measures 7.25" x 7.525" (sight size) and is certified and signed in blue ink: "This beta cloth Apollo 16/ patch was flown to the moon/ aboard the Command Module/ 'Casper' where it remained/ for our five day stay in/ lunar orbit, April 19-24, 1972/ Charles M. Duke, Jr." and also "Charlie Duke/ Apollo 16 LMP". It is handsomely matted and framed to an overall 15" x 26" with a handwritten Letter of Certification by Duke. Extremely desirable with this amount of detailed handwritten provenance. Excellent.

Included in this framed display is a handwritten "Letter of Certification" by Charlie Duke on his personal letterhead; it reads, in full: "I hereby verify that this beta cloth Apollo 16 patch was taken to the moon aboard the command module 'Casper'. This patch was stowed in my CM Personal Preference Kit (PPK). There it remained throughout almost five days in lunar orbit.
"Each astronaut was allowed to carry a certain number of personal items in our PPK. These items, though personal, were a part of our official stowage for Apollo 16, which was the fifth lunar landing.
"This patch was returned to earth aboard 'Casper' after it had been exposed to the vacuum of space during our transearth EVA. After splashdown, I removed my PPK from the CM for the journey to Houston.
"Since then, it has remained a part of my personal space collection. Display this patch with Pride as a remembrance of Apollo when man first ventured beyond earth orbit.
    "Charles M. Duke, Jr
    Apollo 16 Lunar Module Pilot"
