Apollo 16 Flown American Flag and Patch in a Matted and Framed Crew-Signed Presentation to NASA Security Specialist Robert B. "Stretch" Flanagan Who Accompanied the Crew on their Post-Mission Tour. A 5.75" x 4" cloth U.S. flag along with a 4.125" diameter Lion Brothers patch (with upside down "16" at right) and a 9.75" x 7.75" color (some fading) of John Young leaping as he salutes the flag. A printed label states: This Flag And Patch Carried To The Moon Aboard Apollo 16 During The First Scientific Exploration Of The Lunar Highlands, April 16-27, 1972." Another printed label is an appropriate quote from long ago: "There is nothing so far removed from us as to be beyond our reach, or so hidden that we cannot discover it. -René Descartes – 1637". The mat is signed by all three in bold black felt tips: "To Stretch/ With many thanks for your support of the Apollo 16/ Postflight appearances to 33 to 36 places in 18 to 20/ states and D.C./ Warmest personal regards from the crew of Apollo 16/ Ken Mattingly", "John Young", and "Charlie Duke". Framed to an overall 21.5" x 17.5". Very fine.
