Apollo 15 Command Module Flown Silver Robbins Medallion Originally from the Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot James Irwin, Serial Number 051 with the original Robbins plastic case. There were 304 of these striking 35mm sterling silver medals originally struck. Due to a spelling error on the landing site (Appennine instead of Appenine), only 127 were actually flown. The balance was returned to the Robbins Company for correction but was not ready in time for the flight. Interestingly, the silver used for these medallions came from a 1715 Spanish shipwreck off the coast of Cape Canaveral. Excellent condition.

This lot includes a Letter of Authenticity, on High Flight Foundation letterhead, signed by Mary Irwin, the widow of Jim Irwin, that states, in part: "The medallion enclosed with this letter was carried to the Moon during July 26 to August 7, 1971 on Apollo 15, which was the fourth manned lunar landing mission...This medallion has been in our private collection since 1971. The Apollo 15 mission emblem is on the front of the medallion with the mission launch, lunar landing, and return dates engraved on the back. In addition, a copy of the original medallion distribution list with serial numbers written by my husband's hand is included."
