    Description

Apollo 14 Flown Embroidered Mission Insignia Patch Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell, Signed, with Signed LOA. This 4" x 3.5" oval mission insignia patch was based on a design by Jean Beaulieu of the Kennedy Space Center graphics art department. It depicts a NASA Astronaut Pin flying to the moon and this example was carried aboard the Command Module Kitty Hawk during its nine-day flight, January 31-February 9, 1971. The surnames of the crewmembers, "Shepard Roosa Mitchell," are listed beneath the graphic with "APOLLO 14" above, all on a gold thread background. Dr. Mitchell has signed on the verso: "Edgar Mitchell" (low contrast) and has attached a label: "Flown to the moon/ on Kittyhawk/ Edgar Mitchell LMP". Excellent condition.

Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Authenticity on his personal letterhead stating, in part: "This document certifies that the accompanying embroidered mission patch (signed on the back by Edgar Mitchell) was carried in my personal preference kit (PPK) aboard Kittyhawk from January 31, 1971 to February 9, 1971 during the Apollo 14 mission. This mission patch has been in my personal collection since then."

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
