    Description

Apollo 13 Flown Silver Snoopy Pin Originally from the Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Fred Haise, with Signed Letter of Authenticity. A 0.375" x 0.5" Robbins and Sterling hallmarked pin of the beloved Peanuts character Snoopy with tie tack back included. This particular example flew into space on what was to be the third manned lunar landing. Includes case. Excellent.

Included with this lot is a signed LOA on Haise's personal letterhead reading, in full: "Accompanying this letter is a "Silver Snoopy" lapel pin which was carried around the moon on Apollo 13 during April 11 to 17, 1970. The Peanuts comic strip character Snoopy is shown wearing a space suit. "Snoopy was adopted as the official NASA Manned Flight Awareness (MFA) mascot early in the Apollo Program. These pins were awarded personally by an Astronaut to workers throughout the Apollo Program, both within NASA as well as contractors. These individuals were judged to have performed outstanding service toward the success of the Mission. "This 'Silver Snoopy' has been in my personal space artifact collection since 1970 which is now 35 years after the dramatic flight of Apollo 13. The flight was scheduled to be the third manned lunar landing mission, but those plans were aborted due to an oxygen tank explosion in the Service Module. James Lovell, Jack Swigert, and myself used the Lunar Module as a 'life boat' during the four day flight around the moon and back to earth."
