Apollo 13 Flown Optical Eyepiece Directly from the Personal Collection of Backup Mission Commander John Young, Certified and Signed on the Presentation Plaque. A 2.25" diameter x 2.5" tall eyepiece (including attached rubber eye-relief cup) mounted to a 12" x 8" wooden plaque with a 4" embroidered mission insignia patch and an engraved metal plate bearing the text:
This Optical Eyepiece Was Flown On
Apollo 13, And Is Presented To:
    In Recognition For His Far-Seeing
    Contribution To Our Flight.
This Eyepiece Is Still Good For Seeing
The Future Of The Space Program!

Beneath this are the facsimile signatures of the Apollo 13 crewmembers- James Lovell, Fred W. Haise, and Jack Swigert. Young served as backup commander for this ill-fated mission that, two days into the flight on April 13, 1970, suffered a major onboard explosion. The courageous crew, with the help of ground-based backup, support, and Mission Control personnel, managed to make it safely back to Earth. This crew presented Young with this plaque showing their appreciation for his help and support. Excellent condition save for some soiling and minor scratches to the metal plate that could likely be cleaned.

At the top left of this wooden plaque, Young has written in silver: "Telescope Eyepiece Flown on Apollo 13. John Young".
