Flown map of Apollo 13's lunar landing site, later used by Apollo 14

Apollo 13 Flown Fra Mauro Lunar Landing Site Map Photo Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander James Lovell, Signed, with Signed LOA. An 8" x 10.5" double-sided map printed on heavyweight photographic paper, dated April 11, 1970, that shows the Fra Mauro landing site where Apollo 13 had planned on touching down had not the lunar landing been aborted. It is signed in black felt tip: "James Lovell". Fra Mauro (named after a fifteenth century monk and mapmaker) was later used as a landing site by Apollo 14. Note Cone Crater at the edge of the ellipse; this was explored by Alan Shepard and Edgar Mitchell who brought back important scientific samples from the crater. Rarely offered. Very fine.

Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Certification from Lovell on his company letterhead stating, in full: "I hereby certify that this photo of the Fra Mauro Landing Site was on board the Apollo 13 spacecraft. Notice the ellipse on both sides surrounding the landing area. In the close-up photo Cone Crater is the large crater at the edge of the ellipse. Apollo 13 perilous flight took off on April 11 and returned safely on April 17, 1970. This photo was from my personal collection of space artifacts and has been in my possession since the mission."
