    Description

Apollo 13 Crew-Signed Photo Montage on Mat, Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander James Lovell. Six color photos of various sizes showing the sequence of events for this mission from lift-off to the recovery ship, all mounted to a 20" x 16" mat with a printed card showing the dates of the flight that has been signed by all three: "James Lovell", "Jack Swigert", and "Fred Haise". NASA assembled these presentations and had the crew sign them. This is one presented to Lovell. Bumped corners but otherwise excellent with bright photos and bold signatures.

Included in this lot is a signed Letter of Authenticity from Lovell on his letterhead. It reads, in full: "Upon Apollo 13's safe return the NASA team put together this photo montage and had Jack Swigert, Fred Haise and I sign them. At one of the welcome home parties we were all presented with one. This photo montage has been in my personal collection of space artifacts and has been in my possession since the mission."

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
