Apollo 12: Dr. Donald E "Doc" Stullken's Recovery Ship Hornet Crew Hat with His NASA Recovery Team Badge. From Mercury through Skylab, Doc Stullken was often the first person the astronauts would see as they stepped onto the ship from the recovery helicopter. That's not to mention that he was the one who invented the Mercury Auxiliary Flotation Collar, usually referred to as "The Stullken Collar," used to help stabilize and buoy the space capsules after splashdown. These were treasured items from his personal collection.
    (1) A blue wool bill cap, size 7 1/8, by Harvard Sports Headwear (Pittsburgh Hat & Cap Co. tag) with a gold on blue embroidered "Hornet Apollo 12 Dr. Stullken" patch on the crown and bullion on the bill. This was worn on the Hornet November 24, 1969, when the Apollo 12 crew was picked up after their moonlanding mission and transported to the quarantine facility awaiting them on the ship.
    (2) Also included is his NASA /MSC Temporary Recovery Badge, a 2.5" x 3.75" laminated green NASA badge for Apollo Mission 12. "Team 1" is handwritten on the verso.
These are the first Apollo 12 Hornet items Heritage has offered. Awesome displayability. Excellent.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
