Apollo 11 Quarantine: Lunar Receiving Lab Crew Menu from Stouffer Foods for Day One, Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, Certified and Encapsulated by Collectibles Authentication Guaranty. A 15" x 11" (opened) foldover menu, with a large mission insignia on the cover, showing what the Apollo 11 crew ate during their first day of quarantine at the LRL in Houston. Looking at this and the other quarantine menus, Armstrong, Aldrin, and Collins ate quite well, certainly a nice change from the food packets aboard the spacecraft. View this lot online for additional information about Stouffer and the history of their participation in this project. It's interesting that Neil Armstrong saved these menus; it must have been good chow! Light uneven toning, otherwise very fine. Sealed in a numbered archival holder. This lot will include a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.

    More Information:

From a period Stouffer Foods Promotional Flyer (not included):

The world's first men on the Moon-Apollo 11 astronauts-are eating a variety of appetizing convenience foods during the critical post lunar isolation/quarantine period.

The astronauts are in isolation/quarantine in Houston, Texas, until August 14 to make certain no hostile organisms are transported to earth from the Moon. During this period, scientists looking for signs of alien organisms have demanded assurance that diet will cause no illness that might mistakenly be attributed to hostile bacteria.

A large percentage of the meals served are frozen prepared foods available in the neighborhood supermarket. Stouffer Foods, a Division of Litton Industries, is providing most of the desserts, soups, and a major portion of the entrees and side dishes placed on the astronauts' dining table during the 21 days of biologically isolated confinement.

Following extensive technical tests, officials of NASA and Technology, Inc., subcontractor charged with developing the isolation/quarantine feeding program, chose 38 Stouffer products along with selected products from other processors and suppliers as the bases for the menus.

All Stouffer products meet or exceed NASA specifications for purity based on bacteria plate count, staph tests, salmonella checks and coliform count.

The astronauts themselves also approved the selected foods. During simulated isolation/quarantine situations, the astronauts ate the products that will be served during the actual confinement period.

All of the Stouffer foods involved in this program are from regular production. They are the same products offered to homemaker and food service customers.

Stouffer Foods participation in the Apollo 11 program began more than two years ago when Stouffer's executives and dietitians began working with NASA on suggested menus. Final product tests began following the successful flight of Apollo 8 around the Moon.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
