    APOLLO 11

Recorded as Armstrong took that one small step, presented to a "true friend of the astronauts" in 1970

Apollo 11: Neil Armstrong EKG Strip Recorded as He Made that Legendary "Giant Leap for Mankind" onto the Lunar Surface, in Framed Display. An amazing and extremely rare item. A 6" x 1.625" strip from an earth-based electrocardiogram device that was reading the electrical activity of Neil Armstrong's heart from the electrodes attached under his spacesuit as transmitted from the moon (this type of biomedical information was continuously collected and transmitted for all crewmembers from Apollo 7 through Apollo 13). In this case, the Manager of Medical Administration saved the EKG from this historic event and, after the landing, cut it into five pieces giving them to attending physicians. This particular strip was mounted to a 7.5" x 9.5" (sight size) presentation certificate bearing the printed text: "EKG Recordings taken as Apollo 11 Commander Neil Armstrong took Mankind's First Step on the Moon" above, and: "4:13:24:28 Ground Elapsed Time" below. It is autopen-signed above the EKG: "Neil Armstrong". At the bottom is written in pencil: "To Paul Jones Jr/ The heartbeats that made this accomplishment/ possible as recorded at MCC on my console. Keep up/ your Heart work./ Charles A. Berry, M.D." Matted and framed with an engraved plaque, Apollo 7-13 mission insignia patches, and two Snoopy patches to an overall 27" x 33". The plaque reads: "Presented To Paul A. Jones, Jr. A True Friend of the Astronauts by Chas. A Berry, M.D. Director of Medical Research and Operations. NASA Manned Spacecraft Center, Houston, Texas 1970". One light stain on mat, otherwise very fine.
