Apollo 11: NASA Final "Apollo 11 Flight Plan AS-506 / CSM-107 / LM-5" Book as Used by NBC's Carl Stern in Reporting on the Mission in 1969, from His Personal Archives. An original 8" x 10.5" five-hole punched, staple-bound manual of approximately 295 pages, dated July 1, 1969. Marked "STERN" on the cover, containing handwritten notes throughout as made by Stern to be used during news broadcasts. It is divided into six major sections: "General", "Update Forms", "Detailed Timeline", "Detailed Test Objectives", "Consumables", and "Summary Flight Plan". The Detailed Timeline is particularly interesting- 135 pages of crew activities, planned minute by minute. A seldom-seen original document for the most renowned mission of the entire space program. Front cover torn at staple and separated (easily repaired), honest wear from use and research throughout, overall very good.

In July 1969, Carl Stern got a break from his usual beat covering the Supreme Court and Justice Department as NBC News' national, award-winning legal correspondent. He was one of six NBC correspondents assigned to do round-the-clock, live TV reports from the NASA space center in Houston on the progress of the Apollo 11 moon launch. His notes, exclusive materials, and even rare moon food and commemorative jewelry are all included in this and the following four lots. Stern is the recipient of an individual Peabody and Emmy Award. His career as an esteemed broadcast journalist includes memorable coverage of Watergate, Patty Hearst, Chappaquiddick, and The Iran-Contra Affair.
