    Description

Apollo 11: "Lunar Surface Exploration" Illustrated Paper by Neil Armstrong Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, CAG Certified. An original printing of a 35-page treatise on 8" x 10.5" plain paper, stapled at top left, written sometime shortly after Apollo 12's flight in November 1969 as it mentions four men having explored the moon. Abstract:

"This paper reviews the experiences of living on the moon, in accordance with observations made by the four men who have walked the lunar surface. The paper begins by describing initial impressions on viewing lunar terrain, optical effects and color changes according to sun position, and adaptation to lunar gravity.

"A discussion of the equipment worn during extravehicular activity includes a description of the basic garment assemblies and the backpack and its related equipment. The mobility of a human on the lunar surface is described, as limited by the equipment he wears. Three methods of forward movement are evaluated:
    walking, hopping, and loping.

"A number of tasks are discussed. These include: loading and unloading equipment, carrying and emplacing experiment packages, collecting rock samples, driving core tube samples into the surface, and photography. The paper concludes with a description of workload monitoring and predictions."

A very interesting paper with numerous high-quality illustrations. This is the first time Heritage has offered an original copy of this. Very fine. CAG 1002025-025. This lot will include an encapsulated CAG Photo Certificate with a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.
