    Description

Apollo 11 Lunar Module Flown Silver Ankh Cross with Copy of Handwritten Note of Provenance from Buzz Aldrin. A 1.875" x 0.625" silver ankh, possibly handmade, with a suspension loop at top. This, along with the previous and following lots were flown to the moon by Buzz Aldrin on Apollo 11 as a favor for a neighbor and close friend. He later returned the ankh crosses taped to the inside of a 5.25" x 4.125" Apollo 11 foldover notecard with the following handwritten note (a reproduction of which is included with this lot): "Dear Marty. Enclosed are your two crosses which landed on the moon 20 July 1969. Thanks for your felt but unseen help on our mission. May the Creator be with you on your travels in search of happiness. As ever. Buzz. P.S. The Flag went also." The outlines of the ankhs are visible on the note. The astronauts were allowed to carry certain personal items (many times as a favor for friends) in their Personal Preference Kit (PPK) on the missions. According to the note, a copy of which accompanies this lot, this ankh went all the way to the lunar surface. LM-flown relics from Apollo 11 are considered the pinnacle of flown space collectibles. Ankh worn and tarnished.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
