"Used by Neil Armstrong and Me Just After Eagle's Landing..."

Apollo 11 Lunar Module Flown Lunar Surface Checklist Page Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin, Certified and Signed. A 5.5" x 8" page numbered SUR-13/SUR-14, printed on cardstock and three-hole punched, from the "LM Lunar Surface Checklist," P/N "SKB32100074-363" and S/N "1001". This book was taken to and used on the lunar surface by Aldrin and Armstrong during their landmark moon landing on July 20, 1969. It is signed on the SUR-13 side: "Used by Neil Armstrong and Me Just After Eagle's Landing on Apollo XI Buzz Aldrin" and on the SUR-14 side: "Flown to the Lunar Surface on Apollo XI Buzz Aldrin". Note that the "ENG ARM" breaker is shown on the SUR-13 diagram. The crew accidentally broke off the push knob during their preparations for the EVA, a real concern for the crew for if the breaker could not be engaged, they could not have configured the LM Ascent Engine properly, stranding them on the moon. Aldrin used a pen he was using to make flight notes to engage the breaker and the rest is history. Excellent condition.

Included with this lot is a signed typed Letter of Certification in which Aldrin describes the moon landing and the use of this page, in part: "This sheet has the important steps Neil Armstrong and I performed in Eagle just about two hours after the first manned lunar landing. Neil made a beautiful landing. The Lunar Module was automatically targeting us into a large boulder-filled crater. He expertly maneuvered Eagle away from that crater and landed with less than 30 seconds of descent engine fuel remaining. After landing we started a series of procedures listed in the initial pages of the Lunar Surface Checklist. The pages before SUR-13 had Neil and I preparing for a possible emergency lift-off some 2 hours after landing. That included a series of star sightings to align the navigational equipment to our exact position we now called 'Tranquillity Base.' Neil and I reviewed the circuit breaker panel 16 chart on side SUR-13 during the countdown for the possible emergency lift-off. We made sure that all breakers were set as indicated. A black circle indicates the breaker should be 'pushed in' or engaged to allow current flow, while a white circle indicates the breaker should be 'pulled out' to break the flow of electrical current, thus preventing operation of that part of Eagle's systems. Side SUR-14 has some of the final steps we made to place Eagle in the correct posture for that emergency lift-off. We were less than 30 minutes away and needed to set indicators such as our 'X POINTER' and to verify 'tb' or talk-back flags were gray, insuring proper operation. Neil also set or reset switches such as 'ABORT, ABORT STAGE,' and 'ENG(ine) ARM.' The emergency lift-off did not occur and just a few hours later Neil Armstrong and I became the first humans to walk on another celestial body, the Moon. This sheet has been in my private collection since 1969."
