"Carried in Eagle to the Lunar Surface on Apollo XI"

Apollo 11 Lunar Module Flown LM G and N Dictionary "Planet Vectors - 1 & 2" Page Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin, Certified and Signed, with Signed LOA. A 5.5" x 8" page, printed on cardstock and three-hole punched, from the "LM G and N Dictionary," P/N "SKB32100074-361" and S/N "1001" (a copy of the front cover of this book is included with the lot). This page is signed at left vertically on the recto: "Carried in Eagle to the Lunar Surface on Apollo XI/ Buzz Aldrin" and on the verso: "Buzz Aldrin". Excellent condition. From the Steven R. Belasco Collection of Space Memorabilia.

Included with this important document is a detailed signed Letter of Authenticity on Aldrin's personal letterhead stating, in full: "Accompanying this letter is a sheet labeled PLANET VECTORS - 1 and 2 from the Apollo 11 LM G and N Dictionary, Part No. SKB32100074-361, S/N 1001. The dictionary was carried to the Moon on the flight of Apollo 11 during July 16 to 24, 1969. Then the entire Guidance and Navigation (G and N) Dictionary, including this sheet, was taken to the surface of the Moon aboard Lunar Module Eagle during the first lunar landing on July 20, 1969.
"Side 1 has the Venus half-unit vectors listed at 10 hour intervals. These vectors have an X, Y, and Z component and could be used to assist alignment of our IMU or Inertial Measurement Unit. Four of these vectors could be seen at Tranquillity Base. Neil Armstrong and I used this sheet for reference while on the lunar surface.
"Side 2 has the half-unit vectors for the planets Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. These planets were not as bright nor as easily seen as Venus, thus the number of useful intervals during the flight were fewer.
"The complete dictionary was a vital document to the success of our mission. It not only provided definitions of computer codes, but contained detailed information on steps required to operate flight equipment associated with the first lunar landing.
"The sheet has been in my private collection since 1969. This particular sheet has an upper right hand tab labeled PLANET/EARTH/SUN VECTORS, 16 July 1969. I have written along the left edge of side 1: 'Carried in EAGLE to the lunar surface on Apollo XI' and signed it along the left side. I have also signed the bottom of side 2. Additionally, a copy of the cover of the dictionary is enclosed."

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
