    Description

Apollo 11: German .900 Fine Gold "50 Lunare" Medal, PR69 Ultra Cameo NGC, Issued in 1969, Presented by Armstrong to His Mother Viola on her 50th Wedding Anniversary, Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, Certified and Encapsulated by Collectibles Authentication Guaranty. A 24mm medal (7.02 grams) with an image of the space-helmeted Armstrong on the obverse with the text "Der Erste Mensch Auf Dem Mond/ 1969" (The First Person On The Moon/ 1969). The reverse gives the denomination as "50 Lunare" atop the lunar surface with "Das Erste Mongeld/ Moonlandung" (The First Moon Money/ Moon Landing). This was presented by Neil to his mother as a 50th wedding anniversary present (very fitting with the large "50" on the reverse). An unsurpassed example of a beautiful medal with a rich family history. This lot will include a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
