    Description

Famous "Eagle" mission insignia flown to the moon on Apollo 11.

Apollo 11 Flown Beta Cloth Mission Insignia Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin, Signed (Twice) and Certified. A 4" x 4" swatch of Beta cloth with the famous Eagle-landing mission emblem beneath which Dr. Aldrin has written: "Flown to the Moon on Apollo 11/ 16-24 July 1969 Buzz Aldrin". In the upper left corner is added: "Buzz Aldrin/ 6-6-86" signifying the date that this important memento was given to the present consignor at Warsaw, Poland, as a "thank you" gift for allowing him to stay in his home. Aldrin's visit to Poland on the way from Moscow back to the United States was precipitated by a professor friend of the consignor's who had met Aldrin in California and suggested the stop. A wonderful relic of man's first landing on the moon. Excellent condition but with some fraying around the edges.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
